Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s impact on Wrexham is nothing less than astonishing. They have completely revolutionized the club from the perils of extinction to one of the most followed clubs in the world. Of course, there was an investment needed to take the club forward. Yet, the local fans who suffered for years probably deserved all the success. However, when a club gets prosperous, it attracts eyeballs. It draws opinions, and many criticize the club for taking the easy way out. One journalist named Adrian Durham thinks otherwise.

There exist several soccer clubs that face difficulties in initiating their progress after years of letdowns. Sheikh Mansour’s acquisition of Manchester City engrosses some who marvel at the team’s rise to European dominance through strategic planning. Hence, Durham had an interesting take on the sudden admiration for Wrexham. The veteran soccer journalist documented the success of others in light of people’s jealousy towards those who achieve it.

Speaking to TalkSport, Durham mentioned, “In isolation I’m excited by it. They’ve completely revitalised a town, let alone a football club and so I can’t see how that’s a negative at all.” Durham stated how the club suffered in the early stages from previous owners due to financial mismanagement. During that time, they lost one of the stands in the stadium, along with their league status. Therefore, the fans of Wrexham got together and saved the club from extinction by contributing to their cause.

Durham continued, “You’ve got to be pretty hard-boiled to begrudge any Wrexham fan who has been tortured by how the club has been run over the years. To begrudge them this success would be outrageous.” He also noted how fans are hypocritical of a club that functions well.

Notably, there are many instances of fans being upset with Manchester City for being who they are. The iconic team won the treble last season, and many rival fans are unhappy with their current success. They discover a means to fault the team, causing Durham to become displeased.

The investment of clubs these days is going through the roof. The journalist, though, fails to find any fault in it. He continued, “I can’t get my head around it. I personally don’t have a problem with anybody trying to pump money into football, whether that’s Wrexham or Manchester City.”

Recently, Newcastle United received heavy investment from the Middle East. Following that, the club is on an upward trajectory. Thus, Durham wants more millionaires to invest in soccer clubs, especially ones from the lower leagues. In all fairness, NFL legend Tom Brady invested in Birmingham City, looking to follow a similar ownership style to Reynolds and Wrexham.

Thus, soccer is flourishing everywhere, and everybody wants a bite of the cherry. Several investors aspire to craft their own Wrexham narrative, while Ryan and Rob propel their club to the Premier League in the far-off future. Do you agree with Durham’s comments?
